Mass Audubon summer youth program now accepting registrations
Discovery Days, a program designed for kids entering grades K-5 and is free for residents of Wareham, Rochester, Carver and Plymouth, is now accepting registrations for summer events.
The program meets each day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Great Neck Wildlife Sanctuary or the Lyman Reserve and functions as an outdoor field school where kids will be out exploring trails and learning natural history with others.
Friday afternoons end with the chance for families to take part in an extended opportunity for a guided family hike.
Each family also receives a complimentary Mass Audubon family membership, which provides a year of statewide benefits. Residents from other communities may join the program.
Each family is eligible to choose one of the following sessions:
Session one: Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, July 8.
Session two: Tuesday, July 19 through Friday, July 22.
Session three: Tuesday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 5.
Session four: Tuesday, Aug. 9 through Friday, Aug. 12.
Session five: Tuesday, Aug. 23 through Friday, Aug. 26.
There will be an open house to meet the staff, explore the Sanctuary and register for the program on Sunday, June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Great Neck Wildlife Sanctuary.
Participants must bring a light day pack that they can carry themselves, a refillable water bottle and sack lunch. Participants should also come prepared with sunscreen and insect repellent already applied. Proper footwear (no flip-flops) and socks are a must.
Interested families should contact Jennifer Costa by phone at 508-636-2437 before June 30 or email at allenspond@massaudubon.org to register. Space is limited.
