Matthew Ceurvels, 91
Matthew J. Ceurvels, 91, of West Wareham died Feb. 9 in Tobey Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth B. (Dunnebier) Ceurvels. They were married for 70 years. He was the son of the late John and Theresa (Paterzo) Ceurvels.
He was born in Boston and lived in Dorchester and Franklin for many years before moving to Wareham in 1992.
He served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Ceurvels worked as a machinist at GTE-Sylvania in Needham for many years before retiring.
He was a talented drummer having played in the band “Swing Kings.”
Mr. Ceurvels was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Buzzards Bay.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth B. (Dunnebier) Ceurvels; a daughter, Loraine D. Masterson and her husband, Paul of Bourne; a son, Glenn Ceurvels and his wife, Linda of Bellingham; four grandchildren, April Shields of Bellingham, Keith Ceurvels of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Scott P. Masterson and Laura Potter both of Wareham; seven great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Henry Ceurvels.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 29 Armory Road, Buzzards Bay. Visiting hours have been omitted.
