MCAS high achievers lauded by School Committee

There was a lot of celebrating at the School Committee’s meeting on Wednesday night.

Thirty-eight fourth grade Minot Forest Elementary students and 66 11th grade Wareham High School students received a standing ovation for scoring in the “advanced” category on the state’s MCAS test, which was administered in the spring. Of the categories, advanced is the highest.

MCAS are statewide standardized tests designed to hold schools, districts, and students accountable for student performance in three core subjects: English, math and science and technology.

Wareham High School Principal Scott Palladino and Minot Forest Elementary Principal Joan Seamans lauded the students for their achievements. Students walked the stage to be recognized as the principals read names of each individual student aloud.

Palladino and Seamans noted that this year brought the largest number of students ever in both schools to score in the advanced category.

“It’s awesome,” said Seamans.
