Mar 17, 2014

The Onset Protective League will host its annual question-and-answer forum for all town election candidates on Thursday, March 20, in the Dudley Brown VFW Hall in Onset.

Nancy Miller of the Onset Protective League said all the candidates in the April 1 election are scheduled to be at the forum. The format will consist of audience questions followed by responses from each candidate in a particular race.

Selectmen Judith Whiteside and Peter Teitelbaum are pursuing re-election to their three-year terms while Wareham resident Michael Frates will also be running for one of their two seats. In that contest, each voter is asked to cast two votes with the top too vote-getters wining the seats.

The only contested race for the Housing Authority is between Agawam Village resident Henry Fernandes and former Finance Committee Chair Donna Bronk for the vacant three-year term on the five member board.

Three individuals are running for two spots on the Board of Assessors. Incumbent James McCahill, Friends of Wareham Library President Priscilla Porter and Capital Planning Committee Chairman James Giberti are all vying for two three-year positions.

In unopposed contests, current School Committee member Cliff Sylvia and former Wareham teacher and administrator Mel Lazarus will be running for two seats on the School Committee.

The forum will begin at 7 p.m. The VFW Hall is located on Gibbs Ballpark Road off of Onset Avenue. The town election is April 1.
