Meet the Wareham militia
The Wareham Historical Society will host a program by the Wareham Militia on March 17 at 7 p.m. at the Methodist Meeting House, 495 Main St.
Wareham’s history will come alive with demonstrations by re-enactors in uniform who will demonstrate clothing, military drills, weapons and accoutrements from the War of 1812 era.
The Wareham Militia has been preparing for Wareham’s Summer of Celebration this coming June and July, when there will be six weeks of family-friendly events.
The group will be reenacting the attack on Wareham by the British warship, the HMS Nimrod on June 14 and 15 at Besse Park. That same weekend, Wareham will host an encampment of American and British troops on Center Park and at the Tremont Nail Factory with historic living craft demonstrations and period music groups.
On Saturday, July 12, the Wareham Militia will take part in a grand parade celebrating Wareham’s 275 years of Incorporation. Come and learn more about your town’s history! Refreshments will be served.
Admission is $2 for non-members and free for members. The Methodist Meeting House is available for rent. For more information, call Angela M. Dunham, president at (508) 295-8578.
