Meetings, school canceled in Wareham ahead of storm

Winter storm, high wind warnings issued for South Coast

Strong winds and heavy snow are expected to hit Wareham on Tuesday, March 14.

Ahead of the storm, Tuesday's Board of Selectmen has been canceled. Wareham Publc Schools have canceled classes for the day. Additional cancelations will be posted as they are announced.

Snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches is expected, according to the National Weather Service. The snow is expected to begin between 5 and 7 a.m. Snow rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour is expected through Tuesday morning. It is possible that the snow will change to sleet and rain by Tuesday afternoon.

Travel is expected to be dangerous, due to poor visibility and snow-covered roads. Visibility may be less than a quarter of a mile at times.

Strong winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour, may cause scattered power outages throughout the area. The high winds may also cause possible downed trees or branches.

The winter storm warning is in effect from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. The high wind warning is in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
