Minot Forest band and chorus rocks out at winter concert - with video!

Jan 24, 2020

The Minot Forest Elementary School band and chorus performed a high-energy concert at the High School Auditorium on Jan. 22, led by music teacher Russ Hart.

The students performed a variety of classic hits like “Hot Cross Buns” along with seasonal songs, including “Jingle Bells” and “Everbody’s Goin’ on a Sleigh Ride” to an audience of friends, family, and teachers – many of whom were holding flowers for the young performers.

Hart explained what the students were working on, and highlighted different sections of the band, while students introduced each song.

The student’s delight was clear as they performed and smiled proudly after each song, encouraged by Hart, who dynamically conducted the students, often getting down on one knee to cue a specific section.

The chorus, accompanied by Hart on guitar, sang impressively complicated songs, including portions sung in rounds and in which students sang different lines at the same time.

They also worked with Hart to choreograph dances to accompany the songs, often miming the lyrics. The chorus meets twice a week before school — demonstrating real commitment from the students and their teachers.

The band and chorus will perform again in the spring.
