Minot Forest holds annual book fair
Books were plentiful at Minot Forest Elementary School’s Scholastic book fair this week, as students piled into the small space to flip through the fair’s offerings.
Principal Joan Seamans said the annual fair has been going on for several years, and is put on by the PTA. She said the kids have become more and more excited about the book fair over the years.
“I don’t think many of our kids go to bookstores anymore,” Seamans said. “To have the actual books right there gets them excited.”
Seamans said the fair offers books for preschoolers up to grade 5 and beyond.
“There’s chapter books, there’s story books, there’s picture books,” Seamans said. “There is something for everyone.”
Each grade gets to visit the book fair once, and then again on Thursday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with their families. Students may purchase books either during their school day visit, or on Thursday evening with their families. Seamans estimated students buy between one and three books, depending on their families’ financial situations. Sometimes, she said, Scholastic will do special book pricing, too.
“The last time we had a book fair, it was buy one get one free,” Seamans said. “They do sell books at a discounted rate. … The more [the kids] can read, the better for them.”
The book fair will run at Minot Forest until Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
