Monsters, mermaids and more on Main Street
Dinosaurs, ninjas, mermaids, Red Sox players, movie characters, zombies, lions, superheroes and more made appearances at Halloween on Main Street. From 2-5 p.m., children and their families strolled from business to business trick-or-treating.
The event was organized by both the Wareham Village Association and the Wareham Fire Department.
“One thing that we feel strongly about is public safety, and we feel that we can create a safe haven here on Main Street,” Wareham Fire Department Chief Robert McDuffy said. “The children could come and enjoy, sharing time with the merchants.”
Skippy Wilcox, who helped advertise the event to businesses, served up warm cider for children.
“We’re having fun with the kids- a lot of fun,” Wilcox exclaimed.
As for the cider, that drink was concocted by Wareham Firefighter David Wahlstrom.
“Keep an eye out for Wareham Fire Department’s Christmas festivities coming to you soon,” Wahlstrom proclaimed. “Oh yeah, we’re going to do it up.”
Yet for this day, the focus was on costumes and candy. Walking down Main Street, these things spanned from the Firehouse to Cumberland Farms.
“I like candy: chocolate and chocolate,” Aston Martin said, wearing his muscle-filled Spiderman costume.
Businesses embraced the event.
“We had bags we gave out earlier, and I was like, ‘oh, we ran out of bags in like two hours,’” Eastern Bank employee Donna Roderigues said. “There was a lot of kids today. From two to four, we were slammed… It’s good.”
“I thought it was great and I hope they do that every year, honestly,” Roderigues added. “It’s a nice, central location.”
“I liked walking around in the bank,” Zach Pacheco said while sitting in his wagon eating candy. The bank is one of Pacheco’s favorite places to visit.
“It’s nice to do these things on Halloween,” Attorney Leonard Bello said. “We’re happy to participate.”
