More need, more space for Baby Point
Those seeking help with baby supplies can find it now in a freshly-expanded space.
Turning Point, a resource center run by the Wareham Area Committee for the Homeless, recently announced that it expanded the space available for its baby-assistance program, Baby Point.
Baby Point helps low-income parents care for their babies. Among other resources, it provides free diapers and gently used clothing to parents who can demonstrate financial need.
The program now occupies the lower level of the Turning Point building at 3 Viking Drive, a space that’s now filled with shelves of baby products and areas for food and clothing donations.
“While it’s still a work in progress, it gives us more space to organize and accommodate the increase in client families seeking assistance for Baby Point services in this challenging economy,” said Chuck McCullough, the president of the Wareham Area Committee for the Homeless.
While Baby Point hasn’t yet seen a rise in the number of families seeking services — McCullough said numbers aren’t even back to their pre-Covid levels — the expansion is in preparation for that to change.
McCullough hopes to introduce the program to more prospective clients. “Maybe we’ve hit a wall; maybe there aren’t any more babies being born,” he said. “But I don’t believe that is the case.”
Baby Point is open to residents of Wareham, Carver, Buzzards Bay, Marion, Mattapoisett, Middleboro and Rochester. It is offered the third Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 3 Viking Drive.
