New appliances, same taste

What began as a plan to update just the kitchen floor ended up becoming an entire appliance make-over for Lindsey's Restaurant.

Executive Chef David Veronneau said the Cranberry Highway restaurant planned to re-do the kitchen floor and took the opportunity to update other areas of the restaurant as well, getting “as much done as they could.”

Owner Cheryl Lindsey donated nearly $15,000 worth of kitchen equipment to Wareham High School to support a new culinary program currently underway at the school. She read about the program in the newspaper and decided to reach out. The remodeling was already underway when Lindsey's heard the high school's cry for help.

But this isn't the first time Lindsey has given to the community.

“Cheri has always been very supportive, I can't say it's one situation,” said High School Principal Scott Paladino. “[Lindsey's] is a family owned restaurant that's been in town for many years, and they care about the town.”

Over the years, Lindsey's has developed and maintained close ties with the high school, hosting the Dick Maloney Toy Drive, providing lunch to the high school football team before their Thanksgiving game, and sponsoring the Shon Shadrick Memorial Scholarship, which awards $5,000 to prospective college students pursuing Special Education teaching.

Lindsey said she hopes to help get the culinary program off the ground and to keep moving forward in her own business.

“I just feel that its important to grow and not stay stagnant,” said Lindsey. “I like to be innovative and think of the future and I want this restaurant here for 25 more years.”

As for the culinary program, Lindsey says she will be more involved if the high school allows and wants her to.

“I think the youth of tomorrow needs something to hang its hat on,” said Lindsey.

The restaurant will reopen on March 8.
