A new era at Wareham Community Television

Aug 11, 2011

Change is in the air at Wareham Community Television.

More than 1200 Wareham residents responded to a recent WCTV mail-in survey, and as a result, several exciting new shows have been added to the daily programming on Comcast channels 9 and 97 and Verizon channels 30 and 28.

“We now have the ability to download programs produced by public access stations across the country and play them locally," said Warren Randolph, WCTV’s newly-appointed traffic coordinator. “We’ve added 17 new shows ranging from 'Green Revolution' to “'Chatting with History' to 'Older and Loving It.'"

WCTV has made it clear they are not abandoning local programs, however. “Not at all," said Steve Ruiz, who recently added "program coordinator" to his job title. "In fact, we are busier than we’ve ever been with Wareham-based productions."

New programs by WCTV members include: Ghost-hunting show “Phantom P.I.," news show “In the Soup," and “Constitution Talk,” which explores written and oral constitutional values.

Summertime shows include the “Summer of Love" live music series and “On Stage with Mantis.” Gatemen home games were also aired live.

“It’s all about providing more choices to our subscribers and to demonstrate to our members that they, too, can produce their own programming at WCTV," said Jay Heard, WCTV Executive Director.

Recognizing that some change is good and some is not, the Board of Directors renewed Heard’s contract by a unanimous vote of members present during a recent meeting.

Heard has more than 35 years of experience in broadcast journalism as a television cameraman, producer, and director. In addition, he had owned and operated one of New England’s largest television production studios and has served as a television consultant to Fortune 500 companies and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

WCTV is seeking input from the community to further improve its programming line-up. Send your TV program ideas and recommendations to Jay@warehamtv.org.
