Nov 26, 2019

A new bench in memory of Eveline Cabral will be installed in Onset received the Board of Selectmen's approval on Tuesday night.

The bench will be located on the Onset Bluffs near the gazebo.

Eveline Cabral, 83, of Taunton passed away in April of this year at Morton Hospital after a long fight with leukemia.

Although born and raised in Taunton, Cabral and her husband of sixty-four years Ralph Cabral bought a house in Onset on Myrtle Street. There, Cabral would gather the whole family, hosting numerous barbecues, reunions, and holiday parties.

“At the center of every family event was my grandmother, working the crowd, taking pictures and wearing funny hats,” said Cabral’s granddaughter, Jennifer Sanborn. “My grandmother loved the beach and although Onset was her second home, she loved the people and all Onset had to offer.”

Cabral served the City of Taunton Police Department as the head administrative clerk, after which she worked for the Taunton School Department and the Registry of Deeds in Bristol Counties district, Northern district. Before retiring in 1998 she served as a Taunton Municipal Drug Commissioner for several years.

“Our family is dedicated to continuing to honor and remember our grandmother for the beautiful soul and kind heart that she had,” said Cabral’s granddaughter, Jennifer Sanborn. “My grandmother was often referred to as a social butterfly and always was a loyal friend and the matriarch of our family. It is our hope that with this bench, our grandmother's name lives on and is continued to be talked about for generations to come.”

The installation date and the bench material have not yet been determined.
