New Wareham Business Association aims to create more commerce for small businesses

Business owners in Wareham are coming together as part of a new non-profit dedicated to building a community where small businesses work together for the betterment of the town called the Wareham Business Association.

The association is comprised of owners and employees of small businesses in town and according to association president and owner of Lucky Goat Brewery Kendall Peabody, the main goal is to benefit business owners and their customers.

“We want to help improve the business environment and help improve Wareham as a whole,” Peabody said. “We’re trying to focus on what we can do to make businesses flourish.”

The association is still in its infancy and Peabody said some details are still being hammered out but helping new businesses start is one of the association’s main goals.

“I remember when I was first starting it took awhile for me to navigate town nuances and it would have been nice to have a group that could have helped me out,” he said.

Additionally, the association plans on organizing a variety of events and projects throughout the year to get more people downtown.

“Some projects may include trying to clean up downtown and will eventually lead to bigger projects like a farmers market,” he said. “My goal is to move slowly but surely.”

He added the new association is not just for promoting Main Street but for supporting businesses in East and West Wareham as well as Onset.

“It’s hard for each individual area to help themselves but if we all work together and one area is doing better, usually the other areas are doing better too,” he said.

The association has been in the works for several weeks and is waiting to hear back from the state that it is an official 501(c)3 non-profit and has already organized a pickleball tournament to raise money for the Gleason Family YMCA and a trash cleanup.
