'A Night of One Acts' hits the high school stage starting Nov. 30
“A Night of One Acts” by the Viking Theater Company will tell three tales from Nov. 30 - Dec. 3, one each of suspense, comedy and heartbreak.
The plays are: “Sorry Wrong Number,” a mystery thriller, “Suppressed Desires,” a Freudian comedy and “Bad Habits,” an original play by Wareham High School student Ivy Pacheco.
Drama Director Carolyn Gomes-Vieira said “Bad Habits” was written as a collaboration during Drama 1 and 2 classes. Pacheco wrote the play and then classmates provided feedback to help shape the story.
“Bad Habits” is the story of a high school student, a serial dater, who changes her personality with each new boyfriend. When someone unexpected comes along offering something more she’s forced to consider who she really is.
In “Sorry Wrong Number,” a neurotic invalid learns of a planned murder – her own. Armed with only a phone, she frantically tries to enlist help before the event takes place. “Sorry Wrong Number” was originally written as a radio play.
“Suppressed Desires,” written by one of the founders of the Provincetown Playhouse, makes a farce of Freudian concepts.
One characters obsession with psychoanalysis leads to a off-the-wall interpretation of a dream and very nearly a divorce before the absurdity of the situation becomes evident.
The show starts on Nov. 30. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. in the Wareham High School auditorium on Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2. On Dec. 3, the show starts at noon. Tickets cost $10 for the general public and $8 for seniors and students. Children under 7 attend for free.
