No small feat: Minot Forest Elementary tries to break two world records
National Geographic Kids Magazine set out to break two world records, and Minot Forest Elementary joined in the fun.
Minot students aimed to break the record for most people to run 100 meters in 24 hours, and for the longest chain of shoes.
While setting two world records would be quite the feat, there is also a charitable angle to the challenge. The shoes were donated, and will be recycled and turned into athletic surfaces such as tracks and black tops.
“We have about 680 students here. For the most part everyone ran, including teachers,” said gym teacher Deanna Semple.
The students' numbers will be combined with the running and shoe contributions of children across the country. Wareham Week will let you know if the students broke any records!
Minot Forest Elementary will continue accepting donations for the shoe drive until November 5.
