Old Town Hall looks good as new
With a fresh coat of paint, the old Town Hall is one step closer to being renovated.
“Some things still have to be completed,” said Steve Ruiz, technical director at Wareham Community Television, which occupies the building. “It’s been a long process."
Ruiz said WCTV has tried to get the old Town Hall painted and refurbished since moving into the building in 2009.
The paint job was done by a private contractor over the weekend of July 19 and 20. It was the biggest improvement on the building since last November, when workers from the Peabody-based W.J. Skouras and Co. Inc powerwashed and chipped away lead paint.
Located across from the Town Green, the exterior of the old Town Hall had been in rough shape for years. The building’s age and location in the town’s Historic District has delayed work as plans needed to reviewed by various boards and commissions.
Ruiz said Municipal Maintenance inspected the building this week and acknowledged there is still work to be done.
While it is unclear exactly how much work on the exterior of the building remains, most would agree the paint job is a step in the right direction.
“It was kind of embarrassing,” Ruiz said. “I’m glad it no longer looks like that."
