One man was critically injured after his vehicle split in two after crashing into a tree and utility pole on Hathawy Street late Tuesday night.

Kevin Peoples, 25, of Wareham, was the sole occupant of the car and is in serious condition in a Boston area hospital as of Wednesday morning, according to police.

Police said the accident happened on Hathaway Street near Dinahs Way at 10:25 p.m. Wareham Police, Fire, and EMS all responded to the scene.

According to reports, a MedFlight helicopter was requested but was unavailable due to weather. The victim was transported by ambulance to Tobey Hospital and later to a Boston area hospital.

Wareham Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
