May 19, 2019

The Onset Fire District will hold its annual meeting on Monday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Onset VFW, 4 Gibbs Ball Park Rd.

In addition to salaries and other routine expenses, the district is seeking funding for new equipment.

Articles 14 and 15 would fund replacing and trading in Engine One, which is a 1998 Maxim Pumping Engine.

Engine Two, a 2002 Smeal Pumping Engine, needs repairs. Article 13 is a request for $50,000 to fund rehabilitation and frame and body repairs to the engine.

Article 16 would fund a replacement for a staff vehicle.

Article 12 would transfer $10,000 from free cash to an account dedicated to protective clothing and uniforms.

The District is also looking for approval to make payments on current projects.

Article 8 is a request to pay $205,000 for the interest due on the loan for the new Fire Station, which will be located at 8 Sand Pond Rd., near the Salvation Army. Officials hope that ground will be broken on the project in July.

The district is also requesting funds for a $160,500 payment on the debt and interest due on the new ladder truck.

The Water Department is requesting funds to cover salaries and expenses.

The only new piece of equipment the department is requesting is a replacement for a 1997 dump truck at a cost of $41,000 for trade in and replacement.

Payments towards debt and interest incurred for the department’s newest water source and upcoming Cranberry Highway project are on the warrant and total $343,000.

The District Meeting will be followed by an election on May 21.
