Onset firefighters extinguish Cranberry Highway blaze

May 18, 2016

A fire heavily damaged a mobile home on Cranberry Highway before Onset and Wareham firefighters extinguished it Tuesday evening.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the state fire marshal and Wareham police. There are no reported injuries. According to Onset Fire Chief Ray Goodwin, three people and two pets were displaced due to the fire and are receiving Red Cross assistance.

Goodwin said Onset firefighters received the call at 8:16 p.m. and responded to the home, located on lot 14 in the Lakeside Mobile Home Park at 3030 Cranberry Highway.

Goodwin said the flames had been doused after 20 minutes, but crews remained on the scene until 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Assisting Onset was the Wareham Fire Department and the Bourne Fire Department. Wareham arrived on scene and Bourne provided station coverage while Onset firefighters knocked down the blaze.

Wareham police officers closed Cranberry Highway from Main Avenue to the entrance of Cardi’s Furniture so firefighters could run hoses across the road.
