Onset man found not guilty in stabbing incident
A Wareham District Court jury has found Onset resident Christopher Corey Turner not guilty of assault and battery charges stemming from a daylight Onset Avenue knife fight a year ago, according to documents filed in Wareham District Court.
Turner faced three charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a knife), and one charge of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The brawl with Trayce Crew, also of Onset, resulted in injuries to both men, Crew being airlifted to a Boston hospital, and police filing attempted murder charges against Turner.
Crew was released from Brigham and Women's Hospital on May 25, 2012 according to a spokesperson from Brigham and Women's Hospital.
The attempted murder charges were dropped by the Plymouth County District attorney’s office and, in this week's trial, Turner successfully argued that his actions were in self-defense.
Turner sustained a wound to his head that required nine staples according to reports. Turner also had wounds on his hands that were consistent with his claim that he acted in self-defense.
According to reports, when police arrived the men were approximately 100 feet away from each other, and both needed medical attention.
Crew was charged with assault and battery, and his case was continued without a finding.
The police found $1,240 in cash on Turner, and approximately three ounces of marijuana in his home during a subsequent search, according to the police report.
Turner is scheduled to appear in Wareham District Court for a status hearing on the marijuana charge on June 18, and for a jury trial on August 27.
