Onset Summer of Love kicks off, donations still needed for concerts

Jul 2, 2013

The Onset Summer of Love has begun, and organizers say donations are still needed for the 10-week long music series.

Held at the Band Shell in Onset every Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., the concerts are free of charge.

Wareham-based Grace Morrison & the RSO opened the series on June 26. Due to inclement weather, the show was held at the Dudley L. Brown VFW in Onset.

"We had an amazing time," said Morrison, whose band members recently won a "battle of the bands" contest that landed them on the cover of the Dartmouth-based music publication, Limelight Magazine. "It was beyond sweaty, but we had a great turnout."

It costs $10,000 to put on the annual series.

"The best way to donate is to come to a show, drop some money when we pass the bucket, [or] buy a T-shirt, water, or poster," said Kat Jones, who organizes the series for the Onset Bay Association.

Additionally, donations can be made by stopping by Mayflower Bank or by check. Make the check out to the Onset Bay Association and write "Summer of Love" on the "memo" line so the money makes it to the right place.
