OPENING CEREMONY FOR REDCOATS & RESIDENTS

Jun 11, 2014

After eighteen months of planning, the Wareham Summer of Celebration 2014 begins with an opening ceremony. Organized by committee Vice President Nancy Miller, the event begins at 11 am on the Town Green.

Church bells will ring out letting everyone know the exact time the attack by the HMS Nimrod took place. An edited 1812-style Church Service will follow. The story of the attack will be presented to the gathering who will then be entertained with children singing in celebration.

A flag raising will take place to the Star Spangled Banner, the words of which were actually penned during the war. An honor guard will provide a military gun salute, and finally, a tree planting to commemorate the date will take place.

Plan to attend this event to help the Committee kick off an exciting weekend of events.
