Osprey knocks out power for residents (again)
An osprey has again caused a power outage for several hundred Wareham residents, Eversource confirmed Wednesday morning.
“Our crews responded to the area of Narrows Road in Wareham just before 6:30 this morning for reports of a power outage,” Eversource representative Christopher McKinnon said in an email. “When crews arrived, they found damaged equipment caused by a nesting osprey that dropped a branch onto the power lines.
“Once the area was made safe, crews inspected the damage and found the beginnings of an osprey nest on our equipment, which they removed in accordance with environmental regulations, to protect both the osprey and the equipment. Our crews completed repairs to the equipment and power was restored to all customers by 9 a.m.”
About 10,000 customers were affected in total, McKinnon said in an email, though all but 1,100 had energy restored in under 10 minutes.
“During the past several months, we have been working hard to prepare for osprey nesting season in collaboration with municipalities, environmental experts, and community groups. To learn more or to report a nest, please visit Eversource.com,” McKinnon said.
