Pancakes, crafts, games at the Y
When the kids began crafting with glitter during a pancake breakfast, things got a little messy at the Gleason Family YMCA.
Children and families were invited to a pancake breakfast featuring the Easter bunny at the Y on Saturday morning. The menu included regular and chocolate chip pancakes, as well as oatmeal, sausage, bacon, and home fries.
Most of the ingredients for the breakfast were purchased with donations, and all of the proceeds went towards sustaining the mission of the Y. Membership Director Maria Golemo said the mission is to "help every person become healthy and stay at the Y," regardless of income.
The event was put together by Membership Engagement Coordinator Cathy Longfield, who was one of the few chefs that day as well.
"It was a beautiful time," said Membership Director Maria Golemo, who brought her five grandchildren to the event. "They had games, they had projects, they had the Easter Bunny, they also had a cut-out Easter Bunny for kids that were afraid of the Easter Bunny."
While the food was served in the community room, chairs and tables were set up on one side of the gym. Craft tables and small games kept the children occupied, but not too busy to skip out on chocolate chip pancakes.
They crafted easter bunnies, carrots, and birds, among other Easter and spring-related things. Volunteers from the National Honors Society at Wareham High School helped oversee the activities.
"It's always a very very big success," said Golemo, who's seen the event run for five years in a row.
