Parking hearing to be held Dec. 8
The Municipal Maintenance Department will once again tackle the issue of parking in Onset at a hearing Dec. 8.
The hearing, which will be held at Town Hall at 4:30 p.m., is meant to discuss and review the current parking program, which took effect July 1, 2014.
The program affects residents, guests, and visitors of Onset Village on newly-designated "Resident Only" streets. Resident drivers who live or own taxable real estate in Onset are required to purchase on-street parking permits that allow them to park within designated residential zones. The list of designated residential zones and acceptable parking areas was also released in 2014.
The resident permit, which costs $30 per year for residents under 65-years-old and $15 per year for age 65 and older, also gives residents access to trash transfer stations, as well as beach parking lots at Little Harbor Beach, Swifts Beach, and Swifts Neck. Proof of residence is required upon purchase of the permit.
New parking stickers were unveiled at an April Selectmen meeting, in order to differentiate resident parking from beach and dump parking. Stickers may be purchased at the Harbormaster’s office.
The Municipal Maintenance Department declined to comment on the upcoming hearing and the current program. The Harbormaster’s Office did not respond to requests for comment.
