WAREHAM – Patricia Marie Tavares, 73, of Wareham died Monday, November 27, 2023 at her home unexpectedly.

Born in Wareham, she was the daughter of the late Peter V. and Candida (Pina) Tavares.

Patricia was afflicted at a young age with a condition which resulted in her being confined to a wheelchair for the better part of her life. However, never looking upon herself as being disabled, she raised her daughter and helped raise her 5 grandchildren. Her disability never overtook any part of her life as she strived to maintain her independence along with her household. She was the epitome of inspiration. There wasn’t anyone she met that she didn’t show love to. Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her was in awe of her resilience and huge heart. She befriended everyone she met.

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Each holiday she could be found with them and their friends, listening to music and dancing in her chair. She loved to travel and ensured her grandkids visited Disney with her, enjoying the trip as much as they did, maybe even more.

After hearing of an old classmate’s unfortunate fate, she traveled to California to offer support and comfort. Against naysayers’ advice, she was also able to enjoy a cruise to the Bahamas, a lifetime experience she spoke about often.

Survivors include her daughter, Candida Pina of Wareham; her siblings, Peter Tavares of Harwich, Paul Tavares of Wareham, David Silva of New Bedford, Linda Thornton of Onset and Cheryle Tavares-Merritt of W. Wareham; 5 grandchildren, Jevin Pimental, Jordan Pimental, Alyssa Pina, Sheldon Pina and Darren Pina; 3 great grandchildren, Jevin “Junior” Pimental, Shyanne Pimental and A’lani Pina. She was predeceased by her brother, the late Joseph Silva.

She loved her daughter, sisters, brothers and grandchildren unconditionally and she was loved by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 4 – 7 p.m. Her funeral will be held on Monday from the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Patricks’ Cemetery, Wareham.
