Paul D. Fernandes, 76, of E. Wareham, died Sunday, November 28, 2021, at his home after a long illness. He was the husband of Michele J. (Jesus) Fernandes.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Daniel Lima and Pearl (Fernandes) Almeida. Paul worked as a truck driver for the Lorusso Corporation in Plainville.

Paul proudly served in the Mass. Army National Guard for 29 years and retired as sergeant in 2005.

A man with a big heart and few words, Paul helped anyone with anything. Paul worked hard always providing for his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Grogan Council # 15280 in Wareham.

He is survived by his wife, Michele of E. Wareham; his daughters, LaVon M. Fernandes of New Bedford and Kena Dawn Gallagher and her husband David of Lakeville; his siblings, Brian Almeida of NY, Arthur Almeida of Pocasset, Anita Atkinson of Bourne, Wanda Leite of Falmouth, Leslie Correia and Daryl Correia both of Wareham and Dorothea White of CT. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and his Godchild. Paul was predeceased by his granddaughter, the late Madison Gallagher, and his siblings, the late Maura Lima, Galen Almeida, Daniel Lima, Donny Lima and Davey Lima.

His funeral will be from Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28) Wareham on Fri., Dec. 3, 2021 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be Thurs., Dec. 2nd from 4 – 6 PM at the funeral home. Interment in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne will be at a later date.
