WAREHAM – Paul R. Rooney, 66, of Wareham, passed away suddenly on October 6, 2024, at Tobey Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Paula T. (Tuttle) Rooney and the son of the late Robert R. and Jean (McHeffey) Rooney.

He was born in Natick and grew up in Holliston. He then lived in Los Angeles, CA, Plainville, Fall River, and Swansea before moving to Wareham, or the Wonderful Ware-Hamptons, as he liked to call it.

He graduated from Holliston High School where he excelled on the football field. He later received a Master’s Degree in Education from Cambridge College, and a PhD from Saybrook University in California.

Paul was dedicated in the human services field to helping others. He was a court clinician for many years, and later opened his own private practice in New Bedford, where he was well-loved by his clients due to his unwavering dedication and commitment to them.

Paul’s most recent accomplishment was achieving his life-long goal to write an action story with nods to his most familiar people and places, and he succeeded with the recent publication of his novel, “Widow’s Cove”.

He was a dedicated member of the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks #73. In addition, Paul enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling AND he loved spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Grampy” or “Grandpa,” often attending their sporting events to cheer them on, always providing pizza at the end, of course.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Rooney; two daughters, Erin J. Rooney of Norton and Jennifer A. Rooney-Illa of Boston; a stepson, Daniel Murray of Swansea; a stepdaughter, Alison Savicke of North Attleboro; a sister, Leslie Germond and her husband Michael of Holden; a brother, Brian Rooney of Florida; 5 grandchildren, Liam, Kiera, Emeline, Henry and Caleb; a nephew, Cameron Germond.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
