Peep this: Contest entries wow library patrons

Visitors to the Wareham Free Library were wowed last week by an astonishing array of dioramas in which marshmallow Peeps — the classic Easter treat — visited outer space, hung out on the beach and worked in Town Hall.

“I’ve never been to a Peep show before,” joked one patron on Wednesday, April 20.

“I’d do anything for Peeps,” said another.

Library Director Patrick Marshall said he was surprised by the town’s enthusiasm for the contest — nearly two dozen elaborate dioramas were submitted by kids, adults, families and a few Town Hall departments.

“There are some extremely creative designs here,” Marshall said. “The quality of these are amazing to me.”

One diorama inspired by the movie Minions even lit up and played sound at the push of a button.

“Obviously, Wareham’s a very competitive town,” Marshall said.

A video contest is in the works for this summer.

Visitors to the library were able to vote for a Peep-le’s Choice winner, while a panel of judges selected winners in each category.

The winner in the adult category was Peep Tide by Bill and Nancy Keyes.

In the family category, the winner was DesPEEPable Me by the Buckingham family.

The kid winner was Anna Walsh for her “PEEP Party” diorama.

By popular vote, the winner of the PEEP-le’s Choice award was Does Any Bunny Wanna Go Camping by Mikayla Baptista and Sammy Savoie.
