Photos: Celebrating New Year’s a little early at the library
Celebrations kicked off early at the Wareham Free Library on New Year’s Eve with a party that concluded with a countdown to noon and a balloon drop.
Kids started the morning with Big Ryan’s Tall Tales, before getting in line to take a swing at what proved to be a remarkably resilient pinata.
Many of the kids prepared for the task by softly encouraging themselves — “I’m going to do it” — before winding up for a big swing.
Eventually, Big Ryan stepped in to help the kids finish the job, scattering candy and temporary tattoos and launching a candy scramble.
Crafts and coloring pages helped keep the party-goers busy until just before noon.
Library Director Patrick Marshall led a countdown before pulling a string to release 250 balloons — all blown up by library staff the previous day.
Wareham Week was on hand to document the event.
