Phyllis E. Somers, 91, of Bourne, formerly of Wareham, was called home to rest in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Royal Cape Cod Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Somers was the wife of the late Joseph W. Somers. She was born on Sept. 3, 1924, in Wareham the daughter of the late Herbert and Nellie M. (Bumpus) Bates.

She attended Wareham Public Schools and graduated from Wareham High School in 1942. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the Newman Co. in Wareham. She was a member of the Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene, where she was the treasurer and ‘Aunt Phyl’ to generations of children and families that attended services there. In Heaven, she will be reunited with the love of her life, Joseph. Family was everything to Aunt Phyl, and she will be remembered fondly by all she has left behind for her love of angels, the Smarties she handed out at church, backyard barbeques at her Pinehurst home where lawn darts were played, always being up for a shopping trip and lunch out; as well as for her homemade coffee brownies.

She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was the sister of the late Willard H. Bates.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her funeral service to be held on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 12:15 p.m. in the Wareham Village Funeral Home, 5 Center St. Interment will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery 1 Bennington Blvd. Bourne at 2 p.m. Visitation with the family will be from 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. prior to the service.
