Playoffs begin for Gateway baseball
Five of the seven Gateway Charter Teams have fought through the regular season and earned a spot in the Regional Playoffs.
Two of the 10 high level varsity teams from across Southeastern Massachusetts that made it to the final five, they were from Gateway Babe Ruth Charter.
The Gateway Knuckleheads made up of players from Carver, New Bedford, Old Rochester and Wareham are the top seed with a 16-2 Record. Xavier Dominguez, Dawson Knickerbocker and Abdul Vargas are playing major roles to their success.
The Gateway Tigers are the four seed with an 11-7 record. Jacob Juneau, Kyle White and Nick Sylvester are primary contributors along with 14 year olds Colin Horton and Sean Holmes as solid hitters and key pitching/catching battery.
The three other Varsity Teams are the Barnstable Buccaneers, Vineyard Purple and Sandwich Breakers. The final five teams will battle to become the regional varsity champions of the Southeast, Cape and the Islands.
In the Babe Ruth Division, The Wareham Cubs won the Western Division with a 13-3 Record. Jeff Bartlett, Bryson Uhlman, Cam Bariteau lead the team to the division title. Rookie 13 year olds Andrew Brightman and Alex Muteria have been keys to the Cubs offensive success.
The two other Gateway teams join the Cubs in the Babe Ruth playoffs are the Old Rochester Bull Dogs and the Gateway Pirates.
Gateway Babe Ruth is gearing up for the 2016 season and is now accepting summer camp registrations for 12 year olds to get them acclimated to the 90' diamond and 13 year olds as a refresher to build on their skills.
Gateway is also accepting fall ball registrations for this September. Evaluations for 12 year olds will be in early September. Those interested in attending the evaluations should fill out evaluations forms on the Gateway website.
