Playoffs the (field) goal for Vikings
The Wareham Vikings football squad came into this season as a new team.
Heach Coach Brandon Perry joined the team in March, bringing with him a whole new approach to the game. And, said Perry, the team was mostly new, too: only 13 players remained of last year's team after the seniors graduated.
The new team has so far found success in its early outings. It won three out of its first five games played — a step up from the two games it won over last year's 11 game season.
"They're doing really well," Perry said of his players. "The kids have really been making a lot of strides."
Perry and his fellow coaches put a lot of early work into recruitment, bringing enough kids into the program to start the season 32 strong.
Once the team came together, the players started putting in work of their own.
"The kids have really bought in," said Perry. He added the players fully committed once they started to see progress.
With the team hitting its stride, Perry expects the Vikings to make the playoffs. Once there, the team will try to make a run, he said.
