Police arrest Wareham man with multiple warrants following foot chase

A foot chase at Blackmore Pond Road led to the arrest of a Wareham man with several outstanding warrants on Friday, Oct. 26.

Micheal Smith, 28, was reportedly spotted by Officer Calib Larue while he was on patrol in the area around 4:45 p.m. Larue knew that Smith had multiple warrants out for his arrest and attempted to take him into custody.

Smith reportedly resisted arrest and fled down Blackmore Pond Road, leading Larue on a brief foot chase. When Larue caught up to Smith, police said both men fell to the ground with Smith still resisting arrest. 

Sergeant Daniel Henderson was called into assist and Smith was eventually subdued.

Both Officer Larue and Smith sustained a minor injuries as a result of the scuffle with Smith being taken to Tobey Hospital for evaluation.

In addition to his outstanding warrants, Smith will be charged with resisting arrest. He is being held without bail pending an appearance at Wareham District Court on Monday, Oct. 29.
