Police: Missing West Wareham teen found safe

Sep 4, 2013

Wareham Police Acting Chief Kevin Walsh has confirmed that 16-year-old Esmeralda "Emma" McWilliams has been located, after she made contact with a family member and the phone call was traced.

"Emma has been found. She contacted a family member and we were able to find out her location," Walsh said. "She is safe and sound, and she's on her way home."

McWilliams had been missing from her father's West Wareham home since Saturday evening. Walsh said that there was no sign of foul play or of an abduction and that detectives were working with the family, but the family became concerned that the teen was in danger.

The family turned to Facebook to spread the word about situation and created a page called "Bring Emma Home."

On Wednesday evening, the family wrote: "Thank you for all your help and prayers."

Walsh recognized all involved with the teen's safe return.

"We are pleased to learn she is safe, and I praise the cooperative efforts of all involved," he said.

McWilliams' family said her sister talked to her at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday, and she was getting ready for bed.

"Sometime after that, she left the house. We do not know when or with whom. However, we do know that she was planning on getting back in the house without getting caught," her family wrote on the Facebook page.

The family wrote that there were a couple of items that the 16-year-old does not leave for a long period of time, and those items were still in her bedroom. They say she did not leave with clothing, medication, or cigarettes, which is unusual.
