Police: No new witness to robbery, suspect still sought
Wareham Police Acting Chief Kevin Walsh has confirmed that a man seen in surveillance video is not a witness to the Thursday, September 19, robbery of Mayflower Bank in West Wareham.
Police released the photo in hopes that the man could help identity the robbery suspect, who remains at large. (Wareham Week has removed the photo from this report. A photo of the suspect is above.)
According to police, a white man with light colored hair in his mid to late 20s walked into Mayflower Bank, brandished a gun at the teller and made off with an undetermined amount of money.
No customers were inside the bank at the time of the robbery, and no injuries were reported according to police.
A witness states that the suspect fled the scene in a newer model, silver four-door Chrysler 200 sedan. The car was parked in the parking lot of an adjacent business.
A search of the area by officers and a canine partner was unsuccessful.
Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the incident contact the department's Detective Division at 508-295-1206, or leave an anonymous message via the Text-A-Tip program at www.warehampolice.com. Anonymous messages can also be left by phone by calling 508-291-2300.
