Post #220 playoff run ends early

The American Legion Post #220 baseball team's season came to an early end after losing against Rockland Post #147 in the first round of the District 10 playoffs.

Post #220 was second seed as they went up against the seventh-seeded Rockland team. Post #220's final record for the season is 17-8. Results of the best of three playoff series follows.

 

July 23 – Post #220, 6; Rockland, 5

Post #220 escaped with a 6-5 win against Rockland in the first game of the playoffs.

Matt Beatty (Old Rochester) picked up the win by allowing eight hits and four earned runs. Beatty struck out nine in a complete game effort. Billy Peterson (Wareham) went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Sean Griffith (Bourne) also picked up two RBIs with a base hit in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sean Conway (Wareham) added an RBI triple, and Tyler Horton(Wareham) went 1-for-2 with a walk.

July 24 – Rockland, 2; Post #220, 1

In the second game of the series, Rockland won with a walk off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. Post #220 could only generate three hits on the night. Sean Griffith (Bourne) went 1-for-3 with the only RBI, while Jimmy Gamache (Tabor) and Ryan Steek (Upper Cape) added the other two hits. Ian Searles (Wareham)pitched an outstanding game by allowing only one earned run and striking out twelve along the way.

July 25 - Rockland, 5; Post #220, 4

Due to a field conflict, Post #220 had to play the deciding game in Rockland and a late game comeback fell just short in the 5-4 loss.

Zack Kirby (Old Rochester/Framingham State) allowed only two earned runs, while Rockland capitalized on Post #220’s defensive mistakes as they took a five run lead into the sixth inning. In the bottom half of that frame, Post #220 was able to push four runs across, but ultimately went down 1-2-3 in in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Tyler Horton (Wareham) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Brett Labonte (Wareham) also had two hits and Sean Conway (Wareham) added an RBI double.

Jimmy Gamache (Tabor), Wiley Knight (Tabor) and Billy Peterson(Wareham) each had a hit in what would be Post #220’s final game of the summer season.
