Program on Cape Verdean contributions to America set for Sept. 15

Sep 8, 2014

On Sept. 15 at 7 p.m., Wareham resident Phil Gomes will present a program on Cape Verdean history at the Methodist Meeting House.

The program will cover the specific contributions on how Cape Verde combined with Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and African influences to lay the groundwork that resulted in America being the most powerful nation on earth. It will also show how the Wareham and New Bedford areas played a major role in this history.

Cape Verdean contributions to American History were documented in the Congressional Record of August 2, 1991. Gomes will cover these contributions as he discusses the findings of 40 years of research by Marcel Gomes Balla, a well-known Cape Verdean historian.

Admission is free to members and $2 for non-members.
