Quick thinking saves East Wareham home from fire
The decisive action of East Wareham residents led to a happy ending for what could have been a devastating house fire.
The Wareham Fire Department received a call for a fire at 39 Puritan Avenue the morning of Monday, June 17, said Assistant Chief Mark Rogers.
The home was evacuated, and the husband of the home extinguished the fire along with a neighbor, before the Fire Department arrived on scene, said Rogers.
“Their quick actions made our job a lot easier,” said Rogers. “He would have lost his home.”
The neighbor said the fire started from a cigarette on the back porch, which lit the home’s vinyl siding.
The Fire Department remained on screen tearing down the siding and checking for whether the fire had spread, and whether there were any hidden pockets of fire.
