Rain brings added weight to snow, threat of roof collapses

With snow and rain making its way through Wareham Saturday evening, extra attention was paid to the growing weight of snow on top of flat roofs in town.

On Saturday afternoon, Wareham custodians were on the high school roof removing snow. The custodians were clearing snow before the rain came and increased the weight of the snow and the threat of a roof collapse.

Last week Wareham Fire Department Chief Robert McDuffy said the department would be going to mobile home parks in town to check for safety hazards, such as heavy snow loads on roofs, blocked vents and clear driveways and walkways for emergency vehicles.
