Rain, wind bring problems for Wareham drivers, homeowners

Apr 1, 2017

Saturday’s heavy rain and wind caused headaches for Wareham drivers.

Steady rain throughout the morning flooded a stretch of road in the 3000 block on Cranberry Highway in East Wareham, near the former 99 Restaurant. The water logged street slowed traffic and forced drivers to create a makeshift detour through the parking lots of the adjacent shopping plaza.

On the other end of town, wind knocked down a large tree on Main Street, causing a temporary road closure.

Multiple basement floodings were reported in the afternoon, due to the continuing sleet and rains. Basement floodings were reported at Gibbs Avenue, Marion Road and the 2000 block of Cranberry Highway.

Relief from the wet, windy weather is on the way. Sunday’s forecast calls for a high near 50 with partly clear skies.
