Registration open for annual Buzzards Bay Swim
There's still time to register for the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s annual Buzzards Bay Swim set for Saturday, June 25. Swimmers can register now at savebuzzardsbay.org/swim.
Now in its 23rd year, the event features a 1.2-mile open-water course across outer New Bedford Harbor, beginning in the South End of New Bedford and ending at Fort Phoenix Beach State Reservation in Fairhaven.
More than 400 swimmers and kayakers are expected to participate in this year’s event, hailing from communities across southeastern New England and around the United States. Already, more than 200 people from 13 states have signed up.
All funds raised from the Buzzards Bay Swim support the Coalition’s work to protect clean water in communities across the Buzzards Bay region, from Westport to Woods Hole. Collectively, swimmers plan to raise more than $100,000 for clean water through their participation in the Buzzards Bay Swim.
Not a swimmer? The Coalition is looking for volunteers to help on the day of the swim. Sign up as a kayak safety escort to help guide swimmers on the water. Or volunteer on the ground by helping to check in, count and cheer for swimmers at the start line in New Bedford or at the finish line in Fairhaven.
