Restaurants and road races returning to town

Spring and summer are on the way, and they're bringing opportunities for exercise and seasonal eateries.

Selectmen unanimously approved a seasonal beer and wine license for Stash's Onset Beach restaurant.

Stash's opened last June in the former location of longtime summer staple Kenny's Salt Water Taffy and serves specialty pizzas, traditional seaside fare, select Greek and Italian items right on the bay at 182 Onset Ave.

Nicoletta Papantoniadis, who will potentially be the manager of the restaurant, represented Stash's at Tuesday's meeting.

"We're going to add some things to the menu and I hope everybody's happy with that," she said. "We just hope to please the town, we've had a lot of supporters."

Papantoniadis said Stash's is set to open for the season on Wednesday, April 2.

The following month will be busy for the active community in Wareham. Selectmen approved the use of town roads for the 11th annual Gleason Family YMCA 5k road race on Saturday May 17 and the 5th annual Escape the Cape Triathlon on Saturday, May 31.

Jo-Ann Watson with the Gleason YMCA, said she expects 350 to 400 runners at the road race, while Tim Richmond of Max Performance said he anticipates over 700 athletes for the triathlon.

"It's really a fun time," Richmond said of the race event. "It's a great day, we have some great music playing and good spirit by everyone."
