A empty space on Cranberry Highway that currently houses tractors and other heavy machinery will soon be filled with plants and flowers.

Progressive Growers, a company located at 24 Patterson Brook Road off of Cranberry Highway in West Wareham, is opening up a retail operation on 2385-2393 Cranberry Highway, also in West Wareham.

Progressive Growers sells agricultural supplies wholesale. The new store will be a retail store that will sell "anything you need for the outdoors," said owner Craig Canning.

Included in the development will be four greenhouses for plants and shrubs, said Canning.

Canning said he would like to open the facility in early 2013.

"We'll try to clean it up and put a new business in there," he said.

The move will help uplift an area that could use the development, said Town Planner John Charbonneau.

"The Planning Board felt that this is a good project for the town," said Charbonneau. "It's a blighted property. It's basically an open, gravel-and-dirt parking area for tractors."
