Richard A. “Dick” Harlow, Sr., 77
Richard A. “Dick” Harlow, Sr., 77, of Wareham, died Sunday, July 13. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Delaney) Harlow and the father of the late Noreen Harlow.
Born in Barnstable, he was the son of the late Maitland and Lucy (Sintoni) Harlow. He graduated from Wareham High School in 1955 and attended Bryant College in Providence from 1955 to 1958.
Mr. Harlow was employed by the Boeing Aircraft Company in the Reproduction Engineering Department during the construction of the “BOMARC A” and “BOMARC B” missile systems at OTIS Air Force Base in Bourne. He also worked for several civil engineering firms in the local and Boston areas.
Mr. Harlow served as Food Service Sergeant for the 685th Military Police Battalion and retired after 27 years in 1991. During his service, he received numerous awards and decorations that included the Army Service Ribbon, Army Commendation medal, Humanitarian Service medal, Massachusetts Emergency Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Massachusetts Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal.
He enjoyed playing and watching sports. He played basketball in the Methodist Youth Basketball League and softball in the Wareham Men’s Softball League for many years. Mr. Harlow also coached for many years in the Bourne Youth Baseball League.
Mr. Harlow is survived by his son, Richard A. Harlow, Jr. of Wareham; his sister, Paulette Hall and her husband Jack of Wareham; his former daughter in-law and close friend Mary Lanagan of Carver; four grandchildren, Nicole and Heather Lewis and Christopher Choi Harlow and Amelia Ferranti; three nephews, Scott Hall, Mike Hall and Kevin Hall and a great-niece and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 21 at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 12 p.m. Interment will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours have been omitted.
