Richard Bowen to continue as town counsel
Town Counsel Richard Bowen is adding on to his 38 years representing the town of Wareham. He is specifically continuing his career as Town Counsel , which he has been doing for about 15 years.
“I’m 24 years old, that means my life,” said Select Board member Joseph Still.
As Town Counsel Bowen has saved the town money, allowing the funds to go toward other town benefits. Bowen has also worked to prevent lawsuits rather than handle them as they happen.
“I work hard to try to make sure that if there’s a problem, we’re getting it ironed out,” he said.
He added, “It’s given me a level of satisfaction, for a lot of years I didn’t have, and I thank you for the opportunity to do that.”
Bowen is licensed to appear in several types of court, and works as an attorney. These include Massachusetts courts from local to appeals to the Supreme Judicial court, the Federal District Court, the first circuit Court of Appeals in federal court and the United States Supreme Court.
During a Select Board meeting on Tuesday, March 17, Bowen was voted in unanimously for his sixteenth year.
“It’s been a great honor to represent you,” Bowen said.“The last twelve or so years have been particularly close to my heart because I essentially function as an in-house counsel.”
