Richard C. Sward, 77, Teamsters Union member, loading dock supervisor

Richard C. Sward, 77, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at his home in Wareham. He was the widower of the late Priscilla (Smith) Sward.

Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Walter A. and Edthye (Loveland) Sward. A longtime resident of Enfield, CT, he moved to Wareham in 2001.

Mr. Sward was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict from 1953 to 1954.

A member of the Teamsters Union, Local No. 671, Mr. Sward was a loading dock supervisor for Roadway Express, Inc. in E. Windsor, CT.

He was a member of the Amvets, the Polish-American Club, and enjoyed football and horse racing.

Survivors include his daughter Deanna Semple, of Wareham; his brothers Walter Sward, of Manchester, CT, George Sward, of Southington, CT, Jerry Sward, of KY, James Sward, of Bristol, CT, and John Sward, of Higganum, CT; his grandchildren Richard and Aurora Semple; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held on Monday., August 30 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
