Richard F. Carney, 65, construction engineer, private pilot

Richard F. Carney, 65, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at his home in Wareham. He was the husband of Janice E. (Brackett) Carney. They were married for 43 years.

Born in Boston, the son of the late Thomas and Eleanor (Hayes) Carney, Mr. Carney was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology and New England Technical School. A previous resident of Middleboro, he moved to Wareham in 1967.

Mr. Carney was a construction engineer and was employed by Thomson Consultants, Inc. of Marion, as construction supervisor.

A licensed pilot since 1968, Mr. Carney was also a member of the South Shore Radio Control Club and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.

He is survived by his wife; his sister Pamela Bangs, of Middleboro, and his nephew Roy Lee Nelson, Jr., of Middleboro.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Center Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
