Richard Griffith, 72
Richard W. Griffith, 72, of West Wareham, passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. He was the loving husband of Mildred E. (Johnson) Griffith of W. Wareham.
He was born in Wareham, the son of the late George J. and Florence M. (Geenan) Griffith. He attended Wareham Public Schools and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University. Richard worked at Raytheon Corporation until his retirement in 2000.
Richard was an avid genealogist researching family lines back hundreds of years. He was very passionate and enthusiastic about the history of Wareham and spent countless hours in the history room at the Wareham Free Library doing research. He was devoted to the Church of the Good Shepherd where he met his beautiful wife, was the organist for many years, served as a vestry member and loved singing in the choir.
Richard was a loving, dedicated and adored father and grandfather. He was involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always there for any event and as a supportive mentor.
Richard is survived by his wife; his daughter Karen E. Blanchette of Wareham; his daughter Jeane M. and her husband Joe Wallace of Wareham; and his son Andrew W. Griffith and his wife Lauren M. of Wareham. He was the grandfather of Nicholas, Hope, Rebekka, Elizabeth and Jackson. He was also survived by many relatives and friends.
His funeral was held on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 74 High Street, Wareham.
